A Prayer of Protection
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of me,
Christ in the eye that sees me,
Christ in the ear that hears me.
- St. Patrick
A note from Pam Chun
St. Patrick wrote the prayer above in the 5th Century. It is also called St. Patrick's Breastplate or "Lorica," which means body armor or shield.
How we need God's protection today as the coronavirus sweeps through our world.
When the HIM prayer team gathered last Saturday (our last in-person meeting for a while), we were led to Psalm 91 which says in v 4: under his wings you will find refuge, his faithfulness will be your shield.
We cannot pray together as the Body of Christ at HIM 2020 — but we can still pray as one in spirit for ourselves and the world.
Pray St. Patrick's prayer and Psalm 91 today with us. Hope with us in God, our fortress and our shield.
Psalm 91:1-6
1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart
5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
