A Message from Dan and Pam Chun

Aloha!

God is good. He has shown his goodness to Hawaiian Islands Ministries’ (HIM) for more than forty years — and we are amazed and grateful. In 1983, God placed a seedling of a vision within us. That vision became HIM, missioned to gather believers across denominations, traditions, cultures and generations to grow as the One Body of Christ into the exquisite likeness of Christ.

More than forty years later, that vision has not changed. However, after forty years of leading HIM and with much prayer and discussion, we believe it is time to step back from our leadership roles at HIM.

Much like Moses, who gave Joshua the leadership for taking the people of God into the Promised Land, we believe it’s time for HIM to bring on a new leader. HIM is seeking a new executive director with the vision and energy to lead HIM into a new season of abundance for the church of today and tomorrow.

God has nurtured HIM from our first conference with 400 believers to training more than 80,000 people in Hawai‘i and across the globe. Looking back at these first forty years, we are humbled to see what God has done. No other organization has committed to and persevered in gathering believers with this breadth, diversity, and depth over this length of time. We can only imagine what the next forty years hold!

The HIM Board will lead this season of transition.  The Board has assembled a Search Committee which will oversee the process of identifying and evaluating candidates for HIM’s new Executive Director.

The Search Committee will be assisted by Dr. Kathryn Scanland of Greystone Global LLC. Kathryn has helped many large Christian organizations, churches, and parachurches through leadership transitions, and her Christian faith has gifted her with a strong affinity for HIM.

We anticipate the process of finding and onboarding the executive director will take about a year. We will continue being involved with HIM for as long as the transition takes. 

Dr. Scanland and the Search Committee are interested in hearing your thoughts about HIM in the future, and they whole heartedly welcome nominations for the executive director position. HIM has a great board of directors, one we believe God has chosen for this season. To give the board space to discern freely and wisely, Dan has stepped down as chair. Brandon Ahu, Lead Pastor of Metro Christian Church and a dedicated HIM board member, has graciously agreed to serve as HIM’s Interim Board Chair during this transitional period. 

We are excited about what lies ahead. With your ongoing prayers, partnership, and support, we know that God will continue to do great and extraordinary things through HIM as he helps HIM flourish and grow through you. Thank you for the trust you have placed in us and in HIM. We feel honored by the privilege of serving you on this amazing journey.
