Msgr. Gary Secor

Fr. Gary Secor was born on April 16th 1951 in Berkeley California to Don and Alice Secor. At about 4 months old, he came to Hawaii with his parents and was raised on the Windward side of Oahu. He attended St. Anthony’s Grade School and Maryknoll High School. He attended St. Stephen’s Seminary and Chaminade College and graduated in 1973 (Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy). He attended St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park California (Master of Divinity Degree in Theology) and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Honolulu on August 13th 1977. On November 22nd 2016, Pope Francis named him a Monsignor and Chaplain to His Holiness. He has three sisters, all younger than he, who live in the Vancouver Washington area. His father, Donald Secor, died in 2020 and Msgr. Gary resides in Lanikai, helping to take care of his mother, Alice Secor, who is 94.

His priestly assignments have included the following: Associate Pastor of St. Anthony’s in Kailua, Director of Vocations for the Diocese of Honolulu, Pastor St. John’s Mililani, Pastor of Holy Trinity Church Honolulu, Rector of the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, and Vicar For Clergy in the Diocese of Honolulu. He is currently Vicar General of the Diocese of Honolulu and Moderator of the Curia.

Fr. Gary enjoys being a priest, sharing administrative responsibilities with Bishop Silva, preaching, being a caregiver for his Mom, and all the blessing of being God’s servant.
