Bryan Stevenson

Bryan is the founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), a human rights organization in Montgomery, Alabama. Under his leadership, EJI has won major legal victories, including eliminating excessive sentencing, exonerating innocent death row prisoners, and advocating for children prosecuted as adults. He has argued and won cases at the U.S. Supreme Court, including a 2012 ruling banning life sentences without parole for children and a 2019 ruling protecting prisoners with dementia. Mr. Stevenson is the author of Just Mercy, a New York Times bestseller that was adapted into a film in 2019. He has received numerous awards, including the MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Prize and the Martin Luther King Jr. Nonviolent Peace Prize. He holds degrees from Harvard University and has received over 40 honorary doctorates.
